B Braun Sheffield Sharks announced their third commitment of the 2020-21 campaign last night, as Nick Lewis has signed a one-year contract extension, making this his second consecutive season but fifth overall with the Sharks.
The announcement was uniquely made via a Sharks Facebook Livestream on Wednesday evening, where the Sharks gameday announcer, Mike Shaft, revealed Lewis and then proceeded with a short interview.
“We all felt like last season was robbed from us due to the virus, so I’m looking forward to coming back and building off of last season,” said Lewis. “Silverware is always the goal.”
The former GB U20 International and Toronto, Canada, native returned to the club for the 2019-20 after a hiatus from the BBL. Lewis first joined the Sharks as a 19-year-old and suited up from 2012 to 2015, helping the team win the 2013 BBL Trophy and 2013-14 Championship runners-up.
On his return last season, he contributed to a runners-up finish at the 2019-20 British Basketball All-Stars Championship.
This past season the 27-year-old guard averaged 15.1 points (BBL career high), 4.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.8 (tied for second in steals in the BBL). Lewis was also third in the BBL Championship in three-pointers made with 33.
Last November, Lewis had a season high of 29 points against Leicester Riders, as well as other notable performances, such as hitting 19 points in a quarter, including five three-pointers, against Cheshire back in October.
“Nick’s the type of guy that plays with a chip on his shoulder and can bring it on both ends of the floor,” added Head Coach Atiba Lyons.
“His outside shooting but also his pace, stability, and decision making over the last season was impressive. The continuity of the team, so far, will really help us hits the ground running once the season starts.”
