Hayes returns to Phoenix for third season

Cheshire Phoenix have announced that Jalen Hayes will return to the club for the 2020-21 season.

Having joined the Phoenix half-way through the 2018-19 season, this will be Hayes’ third consecutive season at the Ellesmere Port Sports Village after agreeing to activate his second year of a two-year contract clause.

The American forward appeared in 50 games (45 starts) in all competitions. He excelled in his second season with the Phoenix, averaging 15.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game in the 2019-20 BBL Championship.

Hayes also racked up a couple of double-doubles and made the weekly All-Star Five on three occasions.

“I’m super excited to be coming back for a third season,” said Jalen Hayes. “With last season ending so abruptly we’ve got some unfinished business to take care of and I can’t wait to get back going.”

Head Coach Ben Thomas added, “I’m really happy that we have been able to get Jalen back with us next season. He is one of the most effective power-forwards in the BBL and he has proven to be a consistent threat offensively.

“Above his talents on the court, he is a great professional and team player. Jalen’s versatility will be key for us this season, we know he can play multiple positions and that is something he knows will be expected of him.”
