B Braun Sheffield Sharks last night confirmed local power forward Rob Marsden will be back with the club for the 2020-21 season.
The Doncaster native has signed a contract extension making it his fourth consecutive season as a Shark off the back of a two-year deal he signed in 2018.
The announcement was uniquely made via a Sharks Facebook Livestream on Wednesday evening, where the Sharks gameday announcer, Mike Shaft, revealed Marsden and then proceeded with a short interview.
“It’s great to have Marsden back on board,” said Head Coach Atiba Lyons. “He embodies what the club is, a tough, blue collar worker, that puts his head down, works hard and never complains. He sets a great example for our younger guys.”
Marsden, 31, averaged 10.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists through all competitions last season. He also saw a season high of 20 points in September against former club Manchester Giants and a season high of 12 rebounds in October against Glasgow Rocks, both in BBL Cup competitions.
He has contributed helping the club reach BBL Trophy runners-up in 2018 and a runners-up finish at the 2019-20 British Basketball All-Stars Championship.
Marsden is the Sharks fourth player announcement so far, joining Mike Tuck, Mackey McKnight and Nicholas Lewis.
“I’m really looking forward to another season with the Sharks,” added Marsden. “The club has done a great job bringing back some familiar faces that will help us pick up where we left off.”
